I’m based in Tucson, Arizona after 35+ years living in Marin & Sonoma Counties, California. Here some background on me.
My personal mantra is Think of the Possibilities
I love the experience of travel and have built a career that allows me to travel all over the world.
Things I always have in my luggage:
- I wouldn’t think of leaving on a trip without my Bose noise canceling headsets along with my journal. For the past 45 years, I’ve kept a detailed written record of my every trip in “Notes to Lars” (my husband). The journal documents every type of transportation, where I’m going and why, along with my thoughts about what I’m seeing and experiencing.
- I always have my iPad loaded up with downloaded movies, books and podcasts.
- Even though I rarely check a bag, I always have an Apple Airtag tucked into each bag so I can track their location if needed.
My 2 favorite places to travel are:
- Karangasem, Bali is my home away from home. I’ve been there 20+ times over the last decades. I have a lifelong friend who’s lived there for that entire time and I have the great privilege of being his welcome guest at one of his amazing homes where I can switch off and live an authentic Balinese life to the maximum.
- Australia – I first traveled to Oz in the early 1980s and was instantly smitten. The geography and the people are unique and spectacular. Australia is known as “The Lucky Land” and having been many times, I believe that’s a very fair and accurate moniker.
Some of my favorite travel memories are:
- My first solo travel adventure at age 17 when I left home for the summer with a small backpack expecting to return 2 months later and ended up traveling nonstop all over the world for almost 3 years.
- Piloting a single engine turbine airplane (Cessna Silver Eagle) from Santa Rosa, California to Buenos Aires, Argentina. Flying down the length of California, all of Latin America and then the Pacific Coast of South America and then over the Andes Mountains during an epic 7-day trip with my Dad.
Favorite travel tool and tactic I use is:
- Cashing in airline and credit card miles for “free” long haul premium cabin flights
- 3 ways that I have fun while traveling are:
- I love meeting locals spontaneously or when organized through introductions from my global network to talk about the realities of living in their land
- Playing Pickleball in pick-up games with locals
- Riding a bicycle anywhere, especially around a new city or place
My most two most memorable souvenirs are:
- A large bronze Laotian temple bell purchased in Luang Prabang, Laos
- A 75-year-old Burmese Buddhist sacred text, handwritten on gold leafed papier mache and now framed in my home
My favorite museum: Larco Museum in Lima, Peru.
- Truly one of the world’s great archeological collections and a treasure trove of Inca artifacts.
I would like to have a conversation with His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama
